Growing up in the family who has a passion for animals paved the way for Anderson Lim to have a natural love for pets.  “We cared for several animals at home, and my parents started a pet supplies shop 32 years ago and have continued to thrive within the Brunei pet market at that time,” shared Anderson.

Anderson is a recent graduate from University of Rochester in the United States. Before graduating, Anderson recalled, he was required to find internship opportunities in US and Brunei, but he was struggling to find one.

He dreaded the thought of doing nothing in summer, so he spent his time being attentive to his parents’ business operation. Once he got the insight about the business, he found the opportunity to develop Brunei’s first ever online pet store, known as Nimanja (CBN – BN000000483)aims to provide pet lovers with convenience and variety of affordable and quality products to be delivered.

Since his whole life is centered around animals, it’s no wonder if he quickly responded with ‘stray animals population’ to the question of causes he holds dear to his heart.

In fact, “Nimanja has recently collaborated with an organization, Care & Action for Strays (CAS), dedicated to the welfare of stray animals within Brunei. We offer exclusive discounts to the organization as well as provide educational material through our social media and retail store. We also provide exclusive discounts to customers willing to donate to CAS,” he concluded.

It must not be an easy task to start a revolution in a pet industry, and Anderson agrees to it. He says that the most difficult aspect of starting and maintaining his business was the infrastructure of an e-commerce platform because Brunei still lacks development in the said area.

Besides that, the fact that he was still in his final year in university at the start of the company burdened him with the juggling of university work and his growing business back in Brunei, with a jaw-dropping time difference of 12 hours. “Often times, during my final year at university, I had to sleep very late for work purposes and wake up early for morning classes,” he recalled.

The man who loves spending time by hanging out with family and friends has one little awesome fact that he shared with us, “Back in 2012 I competed in the London Olympic games for swimming, which was and will always be one of the most memorable experiences in my life. Training for the Olympic games taught me several incremental skills that I’ve been able to use in the business world. I regularly swim to keep fit in my spare time, but I don’t swim on a competitive level anymore.”

Nimanja is the brand behind the first Bruneian brand of cat litter in the market, and during the event launch for the online store just in March this year, he hosted none other than U.S. Ambassador to Brunei as the Guest of Honor.

Can you imagine how inspirational Anderson with all his achievement in such a young age?
